Homely 3D Reconstruction of Julius Caesar Inspires Mockery & Disgust

Technology has done amazing things for archaeology. While nothing is quite as impressive as unearthing a precious historical artifact, many statues and depictions of historical figures don't really give us an accurate picture of what they actually looked like. But now, using 3D reconstructions, archaeologists have been able to give us a better idea of how these people actually looked. But man. They did Julius Caesar dirty in the latest recreation from the National Museum of Antiquities in the Netherlands.

The depiction is nothing short of unflattering. Bulbous, balding head. Homely features. Nothing like the busts we're used to. And people have been very eager to compare it to similarly grotesque or goofy looking statues and images. Two things are for sure: It's good he's not alive to witness the roasting, and the National Museum of Antiquities should reconsider their stance on recreations. Sometimes it's just not worth it.
